Show MINERS WINDUP ANNUAL MEET Seventh annual convention of district No. 2, International Union Un-ion of Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers concluded Wednesday afternoon at 41 Post Office place, Salt Lake City, with reelection of Dan Edwards as district president-secretary. Negotiations and a negotiating committee were also selected. The names of the latter representatives will not be announced an-nounced until contract conferences conferen-ces are started. The present a-greement a-greement with companies expires June 30. Resolutions adopted at the session ses-sion opposed: (l)repeal of the 40-hour 40-hour week of any congressional atcion that would endanger labor's la-bor's right to collective bargaining; bargain-ing; (2) freezing of wages for the duration of the war or any other time; (3) proposed legislation requiring re-quiring labor organizations to register and list financial standings stand-ings or any other details of organization; or-ganization; (4) general sales tax or a flat wage tax because such levies are inflationary and vicious discrimination; (5) efforts to reduce re-duce price of silver or otherwise discontinue production of war metals or unrestricted production of gold and silver; (6) profiteering profiteer-ing of any sort in war industries. Accounting was asked of funds received by the state land office for the sale of lands orginally set aside for establishment of the miners' hospital. Resolutions supporting the revision re-vision of the occupational disease bill; for state and federal sponsored spon-sored trade education and socialized social-ized medical attention and hospitalization hospi-talization were passed. |
