This year the Clean-up drive will emphasize conservation of property and materials and stimulation stim-ulation of public morale and human hu-man efficiency through cleanliness, cleanli-ness, repair, reconditioning and modernization of housing. Safety, health, fire prevention and beautification all aims of the annual clean-up, this year will take secondary importance to salvage of important war materials. mater-ials. Decision of the city council to cancel plans for improvement of the Heaston Heights road was reached when Mayor Ed W. Johnson John-son reported that no WPA labor is available for the project. A letter from ,M. R. Gardner of Salt Lake City, district manager mana-ger of WPA district No. 2, which was written April 9, reads as follows: fol-lows: "Quota reductions and the calls from private industry for more men have seriously reduced the number of men available for work on our WPA projects. Many of our work projects must suspend sus-pend operations indefinitely and at present there is little or no encouragement en-couragement given for the initiation initi-ation of new work. Therefore, at present and for the immediate future, we cannot plan to open the Bingham road project." A deed which was turned over to the city by Mrs. Martha J. Watson, giving the city title to the ground required before the roadway could be improved, was ordered returned to Mrs. Watson. Wat-son.
