T Jackson came in lii from tram West Yellowstone and the Madi i Ion n rL river fishing district the other afternoon Dad who is the dean of anglers in this neck of the woods and his companion Mr Jackson Jackon Jack Jack- son Fon on were ere as tickled as a couple ol oC kids kid with new red top boots over the results of their outing They spent nearly carly two weeks in the West Yellowstone Yel district and despite the fact that fishing in the river at this time ef f year is not the best they got plenty of fish had a glorious time and brought back some beauties Both of the anglers are arc already talking talk talk- ing about plans for lor another tripi trip i I New cw Shower Bath BathA fA A thirsty gentleman stopped at one Cf of If Salt SaIt Lakes Lake's far famed street fountains foun foun- tam tam-S the other morning Leaning over over the bulb in keen anticipation of ofa ofa a a cooling drink of the city's sparkling mountain water he gave the faucet handle a sudden twist Either he exerted ex ex- tried too much strength or the faucet was was worn for it broke A column of cf water shot from the broken pipe with all the force of its pound per Square quare inch pressure and arid caught the citizen square on the chin In an an instant he was in the process of taking an impromptu shower bath right on Main street His hat went one one way and he went dripping in another another anther an an- other ther while the fountain continued to send end a column of aqua pura five or six feet into the air until a repair repairman man roan could be summoned from the theater water ater department to shut off the thc stream I Must Have Found It F r While he wont won't admit it William H. H Jackson secretary of the Oregon Trail association must have hae found Ponce Ponee de Leons Leon's mythical fountain of youth routh somewhere in his travels in inthe inthe inthe the west when he was climbing and photographing most of the prominent mountains in the Rocky mountain range back in the early Os Mr Jackson dropped into Salt Lake a few days ago en route to the coast and he is the youngest year old man manI I have ever had the pleasure of meet- meet Ing lag k He admits that he is not doing any anymore anymore anymore more mountain climbing just now but he still holds his membership inthe in inthe inthe the Colorado Mountain club and almost almost almost al al- al- al most every year takes a trip with them to their camp and indulges in reminiscences while younger members members mem memo bers are ou out climbing the peaks which he scaled and photographed more than half halt a century ago I Mr Jackson recalls that when he photographed the Mount of the Holy HolyCross HolyCross HolyCross Cross in Colorado in 1873 he took two men besides himself to pack the camera equipment to the mountain They were caught in a storm and had to camp on the side of the peak over overnight overnight overnight night but the following da day broke bright and clear and they got their photographs In Utah Mr Jackson scaled and photographed Mt Ml os and went south to the St Sl George coun coun- try H He climbed the mountain range and got a view of the region that isnow is isnow isnow now Zion national park and Bryce canyon national park but at that I time the beauties of these canyons had not been discovered Mr Jackson recalls that he also had an experience as a in those early days before he started on on his ph photographic travels He got Jot gott Jota a t job ob at Nebraska City driving six yoke of oxen with a heavy load of provisions ro On the pass coming coining into Utah he was WM caught in a storm froze his feet and was laid up in camp for three days das He says sas his contract called for pay of 1 a da day and when he got settlement for the trip he had been docked 3 for the time lost with his frozen feet t. t f Later Mr Jackson went vent to south south- era rn California and md helped drive a drove of young oung horses across country through Utah back to Nebraska Ne Ne- braska Cit City He declares that dr dri- dri big ing that drove of horses was vas worse tt than an an ox team across croES the plains |
