LOCALNOTES William Pearce, a senior in the school of mines and engineering at the University of Utah, was elected president of the student chapter of American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical En-gineers Tuesday. He is also af-filiated with the Sifrma Gamma Epsilon fraternity. He is the son of the late Michael Pearce and Mrs. Pearce of Salt Lake City, one time residents of Copperfield. Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Nerd in and daughter, Dawna, were dinner guests Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Nerdin at West Jordan. The occasion was the eld-er Mr. Nerdin's birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Stavrop-oulo- s and daughter, Angie, of Salt Lake City, were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Panas. Curtis Jensen of Salt Lake City, father of Mrs. William Cook, is reported recovering at Bingham hospital from an operation per-formed Friday. Ed Beck of the Panos apart-ments is convalescing at home following a recent operation at St. Mark's hospital. Mrs. Harold Timothy, Mrs. Ir-vi- n Miller and Mrs. Rudy Steph- en motored to Salt Lake City Saturday evening. Paul and Jimmie Erz visited over the week-en- d in Ogden with their father, Paul F. Erz. Faddis of American Fork, Utah Power and Light company representative formerly at Bing-ham, was recently installed as vice president of the Lions club at American Fork. Marvin Singleton, a former Utah Copper company who left employee Bingham about six weeks ago to enlist in the marine corps, is seriously ill with menin-gitis at a San Diego hospital. MIA Enjoys Play Presented April 23 A delightful comedy in three acts, "Excuse My Dust" by How-ard Reed, was presented the ev-ening of April 23 by the Copper-to- n LDS Mutual Improvement association in the new ward chapel. The story centered around the problems of setting up a new tourist camp. Principal charac-ters in the play were cast as fol-lows: Martin Jensen as Lysander Willis, a carpenter; Wayne Wil-cox as' Bertram Ellis, his helper; Janice Hofhiens as Sue Ann Dagde, a girl about town; Frank LaComb as -- Wallace Kay, the state senator; Maurine Jensen as Judy Carlson, owner of Carlson's auto camp; Gwen Parker as Mrs. Peterson, on the trail of Lysand-er; Barbara Jenkins as Winnie West, Bertram's sweetheart; Jena Vee Larsen as Miss Mason, a sec-retary; Mrs. B. D. Bennion as Mrs. Ellen Potter, owner of the Potter estate; and Keith Poul-se- n as Paul Gerald, a young at-torney. The cast performed excellent-ly and the play, under direction of Mrs. N. Hofhiens and Mrs. Cyral Robison, was a remarkable success. . Birthday Noted Friday Evening In honor of Miss Barbara Mill-er on her eighteenth birthday, a lovely party was arranged" last Friday evening by Miss Barbara Jenkins at the home of her par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. W.
