Show PLAYGROUND NEWS by B. J. Santistevan The second quarter ended Monday Mon-day and the Bingham Blue Socks won the Junior league championship champion-ship the Popeye club won the ef wee league and the Copper-tield Copper-tield Midgets won the Popsicle league. All the teams are adding new men to their rosters to make a supreme effort to win tthe third quarter championship The Naval Air Scouts have entered en-tered the PeeWee league. They are all wearing new caps and blue sweat shirts. The following boys make up this club: Russell Robison, CF; Garth West, P; Douglas Timothy, utility; LaMar Miller, P; Lamar Regar, C; Clare Raeger, IB; George Apostol, RF and P; Bud Patrick, LF. They are sponsored b" Christ Apostol of Christ's Market. Leland and Eugene Halverson are playing with the Bingham Alley Cats. These two boys have real team spirit and are doing their utmost to try and break into the win column. Dick Roblez is pulling a lot of circus catches in the outfield for Bingham air force. John D. Mitchell, Gary La-Comb La-Comb and Ronnie Kastelic are back with the Copperton Sea-bees. Sea-bees. The American Legion team is trying to get a few practice sessions, ses-sions, but so far have not been able to meet as a team. The boys' working has made it hard to hold regular practice sessions. Tom Sotiriou, Ray Gonzalez, Gus Sotiriou are three Copper-field Copper-field boys who enjoy their baseball. base-ball. These boys walk daily through the tunnel to catch the bus and have missed very few days at the playground. Daniel Chavez is another boy who would give his right arm to be a ball player. He hasn't much ability, but plenty of desire, and this is what it takes to get anywhere any-where on a ball field. The gnats have just about had their day on the playground. Since their invasion they have dug in on plenty of the players. The ball players will welcome their retreat. The Popeye club enjoyed a free picture show this week, given them by their sponsor. Harold Chesler, for winning the first half of the PeWee league. The Bingham Blue Socks have yet to be defeated. Their string of victories numbers 15 straight. Dick and Bob Jenkins are back on the playground after having their tonsils removed last week. Both are great little players. Warren Sumnicht is taking his turn pitching for Copperton. He hopes to perfect his screw ball. Rudy Pino is now catching for Copperton. Along with his brother, broth-er, Amedeo, who pitches for the Blue Socks, a bitter baseball feud takes place in the Pino home daily. Kent Christensen and Boyd Stoddard are back hitting the ball high, far and handsome for the Copperton Juniors. The Bingham Air Force is giving giv-ing the Popeye club a tough race for the Pewee league championship. champion-ship. Bob Diederich of Salt Lake City, cousin of Donnie Diederich, is spending this week at Copper-ton Copper-ton and is playing with the Copperton Cop-perton Seabees daily. Johnny Bernardo is now playing play-ing for Frogtown. Wednesday he hit three for four and he maintains main-tains all the pitchers in the league lea-gue are his cousins. Kenny Mattson and Bobby Ed-vick Ed-vick are trying their best to hold their club together. Both play for the Bingham Alley Cats and though the going gets tough for their club, they came back for more each day of the week. Johnny Garahana is playing a fine game at shortstop for the Bingham Blue Socks. Though small, he possesses a lot of ability, both in the field and at the plate. Boyd Householder is planning a vacation trip to Michigan soon. Boyd and Jimmy Math is alternate alter-nate at first base for the Blue Socks. Isamu Mochizuki is turning in some well-pitched ball games for the Bingham Blue Socks. Don Gust is getting his share of hits. He is playing a good game at second base and is also mascot for the American Legion team. |
