Show REGULATION OF HEADLIGHT INDORSED BY AUTO MAKERS The national automobile chamber of commerce erce has indorsed tho the regulation regulation regu regu- lation laUon of automobile h headlights In the following recently sent out by the b board of directors ot of the tho chamber The recommendation ot of the Society of ot Automobile Engineers re regarding illumination approved at the general meeting of ot the society on January 6 5 5 has be been n Indorsed by the board of directors of ot the national automobile automobile automobile auto auto- mobile chamber of ot commerce commeree This recommendation is as follows i j The electrical equipment division suggests as recommended practice the tho following for headlight Illumination lIea Headlights shall be so 80 arranged that no portion of ot the tho beam of ot reflected light when measured seventy-five seventy feet or more ahead of ot the lamps shall rise above e two forty Inches from the level surface on which the vehicle stands This recommendation has also been indorsed b by the executive committee of ot the American Automobile association and by the Safety First Society of America It conforms with the state law In Massachusetts and New Jersey and In effect with that of California Californian three of ot the five states having ha laws on the subject It also complies with ordinances In a number of ot clUes cities Therefore it Is thought to have good prospect of general ge adoption To make the headlights conform with the recommended practice it is necessary only to focus the lamps so 80 as to project a narrow cone or beam bEm of ot reflected ted and concentrated rays S and tilt the lamps at such an angle that the uppermost reflected rays will be parallel with the level surface of ot the road Lamps mounted high as on some trucks Tire Ere re considered by the S S.
