power when the time is ripe He Is definitely allied with the new government although not openly The friendship between Hitler Hiller and General Curt von Schleicher domi domi- dominant nant figure in the cabinet is based on ona ona onla la a secret understanding between these two important figures in the new Ger German man scene It H was known for a long time that Von Schleicher was concocting a deal with Hitler who was an occasional guest at the generals general's home But Hitler Hit ler had to quell opposition in his own party ranks from nazi subordinates who were dissatisfied with their chiefs chief's clandestine alliance with Von Schleicher leader of the army anny reactionaries MOVES OYES WITH SPEED Hitler Hiller moved with his hl customary speed When Elbert Krebs editor of the Nazi Hamburger pub pub- published published an attack on Von Schleicher Hitler HiUer promptly expelled the editor from rom the nazi party Meanwhile Von Schleicher had perfected a confidential accord with Hitler including the following provisions First the reichstag was to be dissolved dissolved dis dis- solved and general elections held Se Second ond the nazis would be given Important posts in Von ministry mm min although Minister of Defense von van Schleicher Foreign Minister Baron von Neurath and Minister of Interior Baron von Gayl would retain their posts in a remodeled cabinet Third the Von cabinet would remove the ban on Hitler's Hillers brown shirt army and restore it to legal existence existence ex ex- but the brown shirts would drop the role of Hitler's private army and be enrolled in government service under the guise of labor bat bat- Fourth Hitler would be granted the utmost freedom to use his effective elective propaganda during the campaign for forthe forthe forthe the July 31 election in which the nazis hope to win control of the reichstag but he promised to be moderate toward the junkers cabinet and to concentrate against socialist and Catholic Cath olic parties decides to share in the government he may face the first serious disaffection in his own ranks Hitler's Hillers followers have a hatred for democracy parlia parlia- and bolshevism and an allegiance to
