Show Your Baby and Mine By MYRTLE MEYER l ELDRED TWINS DOUBLE BUSY MOTHERS MOTHER'S DUTIES Some time ago I 1 printed a query from the mother of twins about managing managing man man- aging their da day so that hours for feeding feed feeding in ing and training would not conflict My suggestion at that time was that thal their days start one halt hour apart thus keeping their meals their bowel training their nap times far enough apart so that the same mother could manage them both I received a anum number aura num ber of letters from rom mothers of at twins All o of them were interesting but naturally all of or them couldn't be printed Ive I've been keeping this one hating to file me it because It contained such wholesome sensible advice from froma rom roma a mother whose twins are now grown up REGULARITY IS SOLUTION Here In part is what she said Mothers of at twins have a common bond I always stop when I see sec them and arid find a certain responsiveness My 1 twin girls arc Ire In college this year ear and arid they have ha been one of my greatest great cst est joys jos The solution for the care of them is an absolutely regular sched sched- ule tile I think Mrs 1 Eldred's plan about feeding ceding schedules is a good one I nursed my babies 20 minutes apart I I used sleeping bags for them taking eiderdown the width of the baby with arms extended and twice as long as they were I cut a slit for their heads and pinned this opening snugly The bags were open at nt th the bottom and were such a comfort I used pique slips about 14 by 20 inches put a n apiece apiece I piece of rubber in them and kept them under the babies in n coaches and andon andon andon on my lap That prevented any necessity sity for rubber panties PERFECT HEALTH I 1 used cracked wheat hent for them and whole wheat bread toasted They never suffered from constipation and had no cavities in first or second teeth They had 12 teeth at 1 year and their teeth now arc perfect They were past 4 years old before they tasted lasted candy I found it easier to keep it away from them than to try to lo restrain their desire for it after they had tasted itI itI it itI I used small separate pens for or them It was not possible to keep them in the same pen as they pulled each others other's hair and md clothes They also had to be kept in separate cribs when they were older and became conscious of each other This is a rambling letter but this common bond of twins makes me mc want to help other mothers who have them SCHEDULE FOR ONE I Taking care of one baby at a n time dwindles in Importance when we find finda a mother working out schedules for I two We have no schedules designed especially for twins but the thc ordinary one could bo used as su suggested by starting their days at slightly different hours taking care of one and then the other Any mother who is interested inter ested In ina a schedule for the small baby's da day ma may have it by sending a self addressed stamped envelope with her request for it itI I I hope the many mothers who wrote me mc about their twins w will 11 accept this as an acknowledgment of my gratitude gratitude graU tude for their interest in the problems of a reader The only service I can promise is to lo answer questions myself and let lct that suffice Sending letters from one reader to another is a service service ser ser- vice that would be pleasant but im ira- possible We are asked to do that very often and arc are always sorry that we have to refuse I hope this wont won't discourage anyone from writing to tome me mc but only save mothers the trouble of ol inclosing letters to send readers whose problems have interested them Tomorrow Baby Shouldn't Have Cold Feet |
