A THANKLESS T TASK TASKa SK a majority of people lately have 1 I Y V been absorbed in politics football Armistice l day preparation and whatnot traffic officers oft of state city and county have been been plugging right alo along g on the streets and highways in their effort to eradicate po poor r lighting a and d defective brakes on automobiles Hundreds of motorists have been tagged for lor deficiencies and hundreds of others have not waited to be halted but have had their lights and brakes tested and repaired I The work of these officers has resulted l Ina in i a vast Improvement but at t the close of only I Ia a few weeks of inspection the number number- of cars carsIn carsin In good condition is a mere drop in a bucket compared to the number that need attention That Is why the state city and county officers are remaining steadily on the Job day and night in the Interest of at f safer streets street and highways Theirs is more or less of ot a thankless task The average driver resents being stopped but if his lights are poor and his brakes defective he should thank the officers for their vigilance They are acting In his interest as well as In the interest of the whole driving public These officers who are committed to a work the results of which must be beneficial will find their reward in the knowledge that they are making the streets and highways safer and thus contributing largely to rethe re- re the number of accidents
