TODAY'S tt ANNIVERSARY On Ma May 15 1917 sixteen camps fo for forthe forthe the he training of officers were opened in n various parts of the United States the he numbers of trainees in attendance attendance attendance attend attend- ance being The camps were scattered throughout through through- out the country so as to afford th the opportunity of entrance and training with the least inc inconvenience anc and expense of ot travel Officers previously previously commissioned in the one corps were required to attend th the camps and in addition about 30 30 selected candidates were ac accepted accepted accepted ac- ac from among the much greater greate number who applied for admission These camps were organized am and conducted under the supervision o of department commanders applicants were required to state their Qualifications qualifications and a rough apportionment was attempted among the candidates candidate to the several states At the conclusion of ot the camp officers were ere commissioned and nud directed to report at the places place selected for the training of at the ne new army By this process the national army need for officers was satisfied and the roster of the regular army filled
