J J 5 East East Hi Hi S School hool I IHas Has Brilliant First Semester Athletic and Social Events Successful Pro Pro 1 1 gram Planned for 2nd Half January 21 will wU mark the closing dosing of ot another semester at t the he East sst high school one of ot the the most successful sue sue- and brilliant t the school has ever known The rhe semester opened with the production of a very promising football foot foot- ball team The Thc outlook was yas promIsing promising promising prom prom- ising until the last game game of the schedule when the Leopards were defeated deflated In a hard-fought hard and contested closely-contested game with Vest West highs high's Panthers The season was brought to a climax December 8 atthe at atthe atthe the annual football banquet given by the East High Athletic association association association tion honoring the team and McKinley McKin McKin- ley Oswald the coach Another athletic highlight was the smokeless smoker sponsored by the members of ot the H uR club This was held on December 14 and was a a- huge success The social seas season n has been scarcely less brilliant The Tho season opened with the annual S. S A. A E. E dance which was held November 10 at t the e Hotel Utah School time has also been liberally sprinkled with very entertaining entertaining- weekly assemblies and rallies Probably the most Im Important biggest of t these ese assemblies was the Red and Black assembly assembly assembly assem assem- bly December cember 21 This was In the nature of a holiday party and was given the tho last day of ot school before vacation to honor the alumni The chief athletic attraction during dur dur- during ing the second term will of course be basketball Coach 1 Lee Simmons reports that In the class series serles which are being played now ho he has found some very promising mate male rial Just before the spring vac vacation on February 21 the finals of the S. S A. A R. R and D D. A. A R. R O yea will again agal compete on this day for the state band championship and p which they they won last year SENIOR DAY The next event on the calendar Is Senior Stuff day On some day during the week of ot May 20 all aU seniors senIors sen sen- bra will classes and hie themselves to some resort for tor a day of everything I Tho The spring festival under the di direction di o of ot Miss Charlotte Stewart and the girls' girls athletic department will be presented again this year on June 1 This colorful pageant is presented every spring on the school campus at the sunset hour On the tho next to last day of school the senior girls will hold their annual annual annual an an- nual breakfast Winding Winding- up this colorful season of social activity Is the senior junior-senior reception It Is the third and last major social event of ot the year At this function which will be held May 24 24 the thc junior class bids farewell fare fare- well to the graduating class School will close on June 7 and andon andon andon on June 8 S the seniors will receive their diplomas
