L GUSS The year 1928 29 In many respects respects respects re re- re- re will s be outstanding in the history of f the West Vest high school TIle The total enrollment reached was 2122 Including girls and 1140 bO boys 8 This Is the largest enrollment enrollment enrollment enroll enroll- ment of any high school In the state The midyear graduates will number number num num- ber her forty The June graduates graduates ates are divided Into two groups Stoups The gro group p. p graduating under the year eleven-year plan planS will number number- approximately approximately approximately ap ap- ap- ap proximately and the group graduating under the year twelve-year plan will number almost The school probably will never have such a a. large graduating class again One of ot the most Int interesting de departments departments departments de- de of the school is the art department Ten prizes were won by students from this department at the state fair this year The West high school has already made nade madea nadea a very creditable c beginning of anart anart an anart art collection Works of ot Fairbanks Fairbanks Fair Fair- FairI I banks Le Grand Richards Harwood liar liar- wood Evan and Geneva Keith are represented In tho the collection The student body Is now buying a forty water-color water collection by Harwood I This set Is called The Seasons and consists of sketches of the old BrIgham Young farm now Liberty park MECHANICAL ARTS The largest and most modern equipped mechanical art department of any high school in the state is found at West Vest high school The following courses are given PrintIng Printing Printing Print Print- ing welding woodwork mechanical cal drawing auto mechanics forge sheet m metal al art copper and machine machine machine ma ma- chine shop The West high school I is the ilia only school in Utah which prints its own year book and school publication In previous years only the he year book was printed but this year the school purchased a a. new Mime Milne press on which the school paper Is published The office training department Is open to prospective graduates In the commercial course These students prepare a great deal of the mimeograph mimeograph mimeograph mimeo mimeo- graph and stenographic work for forthe forthe forthe the city elementary schools besides doing all the stenographic work f for or West Vest high The domestic science department under supervision of Mrs Nell NeU has done some remarkable work The dietetics class prepared mincemeat and plum pudding for Christmas sale and so many orders came in that it could not fill them Richard Perry president of the student bod body is in charge of all aU the assemblies The student body had charge of the Thanksgiving and Christmas collections which were made for the benefit of the Neighborhood Neighborhood Neighborhood Neigh Neigh- house SOCIAL ACTIVITIES The school activities of the school were enjoyed greatly by the stu stu- dents Over thirty clubs were or organized organized or- or in the early part of the school year ear The girls have held numerous hikes and swimming parties Matinee dances are given every two weeks in the Eaton gym gym- The annual H football dance was given at Rainbow at-Rainbow Gardens Gardens Gar Oar dens November 16 The cadet hop and girls' girls dance will be held during the spring quarter The last so socIal social social so- so cial event of the year is the Junior Junior- senior reception in June Starting with only three regulars regular the football team under the tutorship tutorship tutorship tutor tutor- ship of Coaches R.
