Show The Freight Question. A meeting of the transportation bureau of the Chamber of Commerce Com-merce was held last evening. Mr. Simon, the chairman, stated that the ol Ject was to consider and prepare pre-pare a plan of action preparatory to the public meeting to be held this (Fridaj) evening, with a view to securing favorable actinu from the railway companies in order to encourage en-courage the wholesale trade and manufacturers cf this city. He announced an-nounced that after consultation with the freight agents, certain reduction reduc-tion In rates had been conceded. What was necessary now to do was for each line or branch of trade to determine and present In detail the aetual facts which they desire to present to the railroad companies. Mr. Remington presented a statement state-ment as to the aJoption of a special local tarill which would cover the requirements of the wholesale grocery gro-cery trade. Submitted. Mr. Allen presented an outllno of thesltuatlon as it would exist under tho now uniform classification, which is intended to go into effect about January 1, throughout the country. Sir. Conklin presented the situation situa-tion in regard to the shipment and smelting of ores at this point, and said that while the reduction in ra'es had recintly been made, nearly near-ly equalized Salt Lake with Mit-sourl Mit-sourl River points, and did not Indirectly In-directly effect a benefit to Salt Lake City. Mr. H. I. Mason, representing the lumber association, stated that there had been no results since the meeting of the transportation committee com-mittee a week ago, so far as the receiving re-ceiving of orders mtde since that date were concerned, but that some lumber was coming In under old orders.
