Oomtpoadcaee ot tae Deseset News j Quite a gloom has been cast over our little settlement of late owing to the prevalence of disease, especially espec-ially scarlet ever, and the number of deaths that have occurred. The flret was a child of Brothcraud Sister Lynch, who recently came from Indian Territory. On Sunday, October 23, Ethel, daughter of Peter A. and Esther Nebeker, aged about six year?, died of bronchitis; on Monday the 27th uit., Mary Ann, daughter of Ralph and Annie Cordon, aged two years and four months, died ot scarlet fever, and thefollowing morningAugust Baer, a young man ago 1 about twenty-tvo, twenty-tvo, died of typhoid fever. Brother Baer was a nitlVo of Switzerland. Whllo residing hsre, a few years ago, ha served faithfu ly in the capacity of a Deacon, and was a most exemplary young man. Fur nearly three ye its he had resided In the Nineteenth Ward, Salt Lake City. Having been sick there be came here, hoping that his health would improve by the change, but he caught a cold which terminated fatally. On Friday. Oct 31. Evan Earl, son of Jobo J. ani Eleanor Owens Ward, aged about one year, succumbed to scarlet fever; and on the 2nd InsL a child of Brother and Sister Jacobsen died from the same disease. On the Slh, Georgo Andrew, An-drew, son of Bishop Geo. Facer and Harriet Shumway, after an illness of only five days, also fell a victim to scarlet fever. He was three jears and nearly ten months old. Much sympathy Is felt for the bereaved aud afflicted pirenta. School has been adjourned, but we earnestly pray that tbe dreul visitation visita-tion may soon depart from our midst. Our n6w meeting house Is almost flnisbed. Tbe basement Is of rock, about ten feet high. Over that is a brick room 60 feet long, -10 wide, and about 20 from floor to celling. The cost Of finishing tbe building (on the rock foundation erected years ago) will amount to about $1500. The new structure will not be ready any too soon, as the de-mind de-mind for schoolrooms will take the hall that has hitherto been used for meeting purjscs. We have three school districts here, with one school In each. The central one this winter will comprise three departments, and tho attendance attend-ance In all will probably exceed two hundred. Messrs. Harding & Co. will soon commence mercantile lusiness again. Thebullding that wasburned down in tho summer is being refitted re-fitted for that pur, ose.
