Packard Who Died Sunday Funeral services will be conducted conduct-ed today, Thursday, at 2:00 p. m., in the Third ward chapel for Milan Owen Packard, 86, former SpringviUe Spring-viUe mayor, state .legislator and weft-known business man, who died on Sunday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Eliza P. Packard, 190 No. Main street, before the services. Burial will be in the SpringviUe City cemetery, directed by Claudin Funeral Home. , The SpringviUe Bank will be closed at noon and the remainder re-mainder of the day Thursday for the funeral services and in tribute to Mr. Packard, former for-mer bank president. Mr. Packard was born in SpringviUe Spring-viUe October 7, 1860, a son of Milan and Margaret Jane Haymond Packard. In his very early years, he freighted and later engaged in the mercantile business, becoming manager of the Packard-Lisonbee Company, sheep and wool growers, and engaged in the sheep industry until about 1898. In his earlier life, also, he engaged in the contracting con-tracting business, being associated with the late H. T. Reynolds. Elected to the state legislature in 1904, he later became mayor of this city. He had always been active in Republican party politics. In 1909, he entered the banking business and was made a director, later becoming president of the SpringviUe Banking Company and holding that position until his retirement re-tirement in 1941. Mr. Packard was one of the original founders of the Utah Wholesale Grocery Co., and the American Wholesale Co. of Seattle, Seat-tle, Wash., and was a director and president of the former concern until his retirement. He married Julia Ann Crandall in March', 1883, at SpringviUe. Mrs. Packard died In October of 1936. His survivors include six sons and one daughter, Mrs'. Eliza P. Taylor, Encinitas, Calif.; M. O. Packard, Jr., of Phoenix, Arizona; S. Dwight Packard, American Fork; Fay C. and Alton W. Packard, Pack-ard, SpringviUe; R. E. Packard, Provo; D. S. Packard, Salt Lake City; also fourteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a sister and four brothers, Miss Preal Packard and W. N. Packard, Salt Lake City; A. O. Packard and J. A. Packard, SpringviUe, and N. L. Packard, Salina. |
