Show Gold Medals Are Awarded For Safety In recognition of outstanding public service in promoting greater safety of life and resources from fire during 1947, the National Board of Fire Underwriters has awarded gold medals to a daily newspaper, a weekly, and a radio station. The daily is the Evening Record of Chelsea, Massachusetts. It was given the award for continuous fire prevention stories and campaigns cam-paigns which were credited with reducing the city's fire loss to the lowest point in 20 years. The Syracuse-Wawasee Journal, Indiana, earned the weekly award for a three-year fight for new fire equipment and a paid fire department. depart-ment. Radio station WLS, Chicago, got its third gold medal in four years for its intensive campaign to achieve greater fire safety on Midwestern Mid-western farms. Eleven other newspapers and five radio stations received honorable honor-able mention citations for outstanding out-standing fire prevention work. |
