Show NOW IS THE TIME . TO USE DDT ON FLIES, OTHER PESTS Now is the time to put up and begin painting the household screens with 5 per cent DDT in kerosene, to destroy houseflies, and to eliminate certain other insect intruders which otherwise will enter the home, suggested Dr. G. F. Knowlton, Utah State Extension Exten-sion entomologist. "DDT gray" has become the popular color for screens on doors and windows of homes, factories, and porches. Three applications each season to screen, and treatment treat-ment of outdoor garbage cans and other, housefly resting places, is about right if every home owner in the city will do the same. In small . towns and on farms, "farmstead spraying," inside and out of all barns, pigpens, coops, milk houses and other outbuildings is recommended by entomologist Knowlton. Wettable DDT is usually usual-ly applied for this treatment, and this water DDT mixture should at the same time be sprayed on all farm animals (except cats and chickens) for further benefits, it was pointed out. It is well to spray cattle once a month, to control hornflies. |
