Show JAYCEES ANNOUNCE WINNERS IN CITY CONTESTS Reed Bird, Bob Taylor, First With Best Gardens; Clean-Up Paint Up Won By LaRell Johnson Winners of the city Clean-up, Paint-up and the Victory Garden Gar-den contests were announced this week by the Junior Chamber of Commerce, sponsors of the annual projects. Keed Bird, iuasr tjenien street, and Bob Taylor, 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Taylor, tied for first-place honors in the garden contest and the prize money mon-ey of $10 was divided between them. Mr. Bird's garden was described by the judges as perfect, with a large variety of vegetables on a well cultivated space and in excellent excel-lent condition. Bob Tayor's garden, planted and cared for by himself, was a fine exhibition of what any boy might do to help at home with the war effort. He had many vegetables on a plot of ground in which every available space was used. There were a large number of gardens entered in the contest and some very fine gardens exhibited. Practically every type of vegetable, vegeta-ble, from garlic to egg plants and peppers, were found in the various gardens, the judges reported. In the Clean-up, Paint-up contest, con-test, LaRell Johnson, 111 South, Second West, was judged first-place first-place winner with a project consisting con-sisting of a play-pen, a sand box and other recreation equipment for ; children, ; surrounded with a white picket fence. He was awarded award-ed a $10 cash prize. Second prize in the Paint-up, Clean-up contest went to Charles Fray, 63 South, Second East for remodeling and painting of the exterior ex-terior of his home. The contest was under direction of a committee composed of Mell Haymond, chairman, assisted by President Verl Whiting, Blaine Thorpe, Wallace Patrick, Earl Lundquist and Frank Morgan. |
