Show LEGION JUNIOR BASEBALL NEARS ENDING Interstate competition in the 1948 American Legion Junior Baseball program, in which more than 1,000,000 boys 17 years of age or under, have been enrolled, will open August 21 with 12 regional tournaments throughout the nation. This was announced by Dan Sowers of Fairmont, W. Va., chair- man of the Junior Baseball subcommittee sub-committee of the National Americanism Ameri-canism Commission of the Amerb. can Lcg'ion, sponsor of this greatest great-est organized amateur sports activity acti-vity for boys. The 12 winning teams of the regional play will cross bats in four sectional tourneys which will start August 28. The four sectional sec-tional champions will meet in the 1948 Junior World Series, which will be played for the first time this year at Victory Field, the American Association League baseball park in Indianapolis, September 6 to 10. State championship series were opened July 30 in 47 states, the District of Columbia and Hawaii. State winners must be certified to the National Americanism Commission Com-mission by August 18 for interstate inter-state competition. Region 12. which includes all of Utah, Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Nevada, will be held in Salt Lake City August 22 to 25. |
