Show JAYCEES ANNOUNCE ARRIVAL OF CADET BOARD As a part of their cooperation in the national defense program, the Springville Junior Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the cadet phase of the national preparedness pre-paredness movement. President Itay Richards announced an-nounced today that the Junior Chamber of Commerce has received receiv-ed word that a traveling flying cadet examining hoard will be at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, January 10, 11, and 12. Candidates for appointment as flying cadets must be unmarried main citizens, between the ages (if twenty and twenty-six, Inclusive. In-clusive. Those who have not satisfactorily satis-factorily completed at least two years of standard college work must pass a written educational examination, which Is the equivalent equival-ent thereof. Tho examination comprises com-prises the following subjects: Unlleif States history, general history, his-tory, English grammar and composition, com-position, geography, arithmetic, algebra, plane and sold geometry, trigonometry, and elementary physics. phy-sics. The passing grade is 70. Each subject is graded upon a basis of one hundred per cont and the final grade Is the average grade received In the combined subjects. Candidates accepted for flying cadet appointment are authorized to appear before the flying cadet examining boards located at army air corps stations and at other army posts whore facllitios exist for conducting the physical examination exam-ination for flying. It should be remembered re-membered that the physical standard stan-dard for flying Is of necessity more rigid than that for enlistment enlist-ment In the regular army, especially espe-cially as to vision, hearing, and the nervous system. Vision must be normal, that is 2020 for each oye, without glasses. Candidates must have unimpaired ocular muscle mus-cle balance, good hearing, a stable sta-ble and balanced equilibrium, normal nor-mal color vision, and a stable ner- vous system. Tho minimum height Is sixty-four Inches; the maximum, seventy-four Inches. Prospective candidates, in order or-der to avoid unnecessary expense, should secure a preliminary examination exam-ination by a physician before reporting re-porting to a flying cadet examining examin-ing board. Examinations by this board can be given practically at any time, with the exception of the written examination. These are usually conducted on the second sec-ond Tuesday in August, November, Novem-ber, February and May. Incident to the air corps expansion ex-pansion program, classes of flying cadets start training every six weeks at certain designated civil flying schools located in various sections of the country. All qualified quali-fied candidates are placed on a waiting list with a view to assignment assign-ment to the first class in which they can be accomodated at a flying fly-ing school. Upon completion of the first three months of elementary elemen-tary training at a civil flying school under the supervision of the army, flying cadets will be sent to the air corps primary flying school, Randolph Field, Texas, for three months' additional addition-al instruction. |
