Elison of Salt Lake City. Mr. Elison has had thirty years of merchandising experience ex-perience and at present is conducting conduct-ing courses in a number of large department stores in Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Heber. This service ser-vice is available to merchants and salespeople employed in the field of distribution. -1 Through the cooperation of the local Junior Chamber of Commerce Com-merce and high school and state department of vocational education, educa-tion, a public education service is now available to merchants and salespeople, beginning Thursday, January 9, at 7:30 in the Little Theatre at the Art building. v A similar type of service has been available to industry and ag- ' riculture and workers employed in these fields since 1917. 'N Competition is measured not only in terms of how good business busi-ness is, but how much better competitors com-petitors are becoming. Cities of medium size must compete with the larger centers for local trade. In her car, Mrs. Customer can drive miles in a short time to compare the merchandise and service ser-vice of the various stores. Because she is familiar with the service of salespeople in a large store, she expects the same standards in her own local community. A well-trained salesperson is required to serve the average mo-- mo-- dern shopper efficiently. Among f other qualifications, Mrs. Customer Custom-er expects her salesperson to know the merchandise thoroughly, fabrics, fab-rics, and how to care for the nourishing nour-ishing qualities of foods and new ways of preparing them. Mrs. Customer Cus-tomer expects the salesperson to help her with these technical problems prob-lems affecting her personal needs. It is now possible for public education to assist the smaller store with its training problems by rendering a service which is i t |
