Show OREGON HAS NEW YEAR-ROUND SCHOOL SYSTEM Vanport City, Oregon, described by residents as the world's largest larg-est shipbuilders' city, has a round-the-clock education system, summer sum-mer and winter. Students go to classes on a two-shift two-shift basis, part in the morning and the rest in the afternoon. Toddlers Tod-dlers are in the nursery school for night care and grammar school children, whose sleep is disturbed by the working hours of their parents, enroll in special classes. The experiment is interesting but the probability is that the five-day, five-day, nine-month school plan will endure. There seems to be no particular par-ticular reason for its permanency and many arguments can be advanced ad-vanced for an improved stepped up program. Nevertheless, the inertia in-ertia of human beings makes the existing system permanent. |
