Show ARMY GIVES MORE MORE AWARDS THAN THE NAVY With three times the number of men, the Army has awarded 18 times as many decorations in the present war as the Navy. Eight out of nine of the Army awards have been air medals. The ratio in the Navy has been one out of three. The Army air medal or its cluster, has been given more than 99,000 times, being awarded for every five combat flights. By contrast, a Marine Corps major, who shot down 26 Japanese planes, did not get the Navy medal med-al because officials contend ' that it is a fighting man's job to shoot down the enemy and he is not entitled en-titled to an award unless the action ac-tion is "unusually meritorious." |
