Show In Our Town... WALTER REID We have Joe Grant to thank for our latest acquisition and, from where we sit, it looks very much like Joe is running true to form in his aility to pick a winner. When he began to indulge in ms pet hobby of show horses, he picked pick-ed one of the country's top trainers train-ers and handlers in the person of Walter Reid. Training horses is a far cry from the training Reid had as a young man in Vermont, but rc would seem that he is one of those fortunate people who has managed to make their hobby their profession profes-sion and very successfully, too. We are limited by space to give a complete picture of his travels since taking up this Gypsy Ufe but it would look very much like a map of the U. S. and Canada. Just a few of the high spots would show nine years with Canadian Farms, a session in that mecca or horsemen, Kentucky, two and a half years a trainer for Harry Balfe in Southern California, nearly near-ly two years taking care of Gary Cooper's stable of spoiled beauties in Hollywood, a spell with Tommy Atkins, one of RKO's top directors direc-tors and now, what he admits the sweetest spot of all, the Mount Maple Stables, working for Joe Grant. From here on he talks of nothing noth-ing but his charges Hi-Hope Mac, the famous stallion and twice champion, Queen Valentino, & beautiful walk trot mare who will make her first appearance at the horse show in Provo on September 1st and 2nd. Right now he is engrossed en-grossed in several coming two-year-olds who will be able to start training within the next sixty days It looks like a full house and we hope he decides to stay put. , |
