Show , fapii Meets Devils Here' Friday , Keen Rivalry Promises Hotly Contested Game Friday Contest Listed As A "Must" Game If Clubs Are To Stay In Title Race; Spanish Fork Host To Nephi In Other Tilt Springville high school's Red Devils will entertain the visiting Payson Lions on the waxed court here Friday night in what promises prom-ises to be a "natural", inasmuch as the game is a "must" game for both teams since the two clubs have each lost one game in two starts and, also, the loser of Friday's Fri-day's contest will have only an outside chance for title hopes. The game will begin at 8 p. m., to be preceded by a Sophomore game at 7 p. m. Reserved seat tickets are on sale at the City Drug Co. When the two teams line up for the game Friday, Springville will not only be out to win the contest, con-test, but to gain back some of the prestige that Payson has held over the Devils for the past two years. Not one game has been won by the Red Devil casaba clubs in the past two years of playing. Payson defeated them, 16-28, 22-36 in 1942 and last year won by 25-30 and 24-27 scores. Should the Paysonites win this year's battles, they would set up something of a record over the Devils. Judging the possibilities of a win for either club on paper, and from their respective game results re-sults against the league-leading Spanish Fork Dons, both teams should end the game in a tie since both clubs lost to the Dons by precisely pre-cisely the same number of points. Coach Fuller's club packs plenty of scoring punch in Max McBeth, Nebo district's leading scorer. ' This rangy center accounted for 10 out of the 19 points scored against the Spanish Fork club last Friday. The tight defense used by the Payson club in past years against the Red Devils has clicked most successfully and must be counted as equally good this year. Coach Del Moine Christensen's ! Devils have been drilled hard for i the coming contest and should ! they hit their pre-season stride in ! passing and defensive play, they ; will give the Lions plenty to wor ry about. Last Friday's Nebo games were won by Spanish Fork over Payson 22-19, and Nephi over Tintic 55 to 30. The other scheduled game, in the Nebo district, which will be equally as important as the Springville-Payson game, will be the Spanish Fork-Nephi tilt at Spanish Fork. Odds are on the Wasps to upset the high-riding Dons, although the game is set at Spanish, arid a hot contest there and at Springville are in the offing. Should the Dons get beaten beat-en Friday, the winner of the Springville-Payson game would be tied with Nephi and Spanish Fork, fulfilling the prediction that this year's Nebo race would be the ; stiffest, most hotly contested race for a number of years past. |
