Show Grant Thorn Wins Service Award Key Men Awards Presented To Taylor Burt Glenn Hansen And Wallace Patrick At Second Annual Jaycee Service Award Banquet Grant Thorn, local contractor, was presented the award by the Junior Chamber of Commerce as the most outstanding young man in Springville in the year 1943. Grant Thorn, who was awarded the Junior Chamber of Commerce Com-merce Service award. at the second annual service award banquet and program held Thursday evening, at Memorial hall. The winner of the service award is state vice-president of the Junior Jun-ior Chamber of Commerce. He has served on numerous war fund drive committees the past year and is a past president of the local lo-cal Junior Chamber of Commerce. He has served the public the past year and for several years as a vocalist and public speaker. He is Springville city chairman of the infantile paralysis drive. His ability as a leader was recognized rec-ognized by the judging committee in making the selection. He has assisted with many Junior Chamber Cham-ber projects the past year and since organization of the club here. He maintains a home in Springville Spring-ville and is associated with his father and brother in the general contracting of war-time projects. The service award banquet was also featured by the presentation of three key men awards to Taylor Tay-lor Burt, Glenn Hansen and Wallace Wal-lace Patrick, for their outstanding outstand-ing activity in Junior Chamber work the past year. During the evening, also, the Springville Herald was presented with a scroll in recognition of the cooperation given by the local publication to the Jaycees. Nelson Aldrich, founder of the Jaycees movement in Utah, was the principal guest speaker at the banquet. Jay Brockbank, state vice-president, also spoke briefly. Mark Linberg, national Jaycee director, di-rector, was a special guest at the entertainment. The presentation of the service award was made by E. A. Strong, chairman of the committee making mak-ing the selection. Other members were Harrison Conover and J. F. Wingate. Wives of Jaycee members in the service were special guests at the banquet and each was presented pre-sented with a bouquet of flowers, as were the wives of the visiting officials. Kay Johnson, president of the local club, was in charge of the meeting. Ernest Boyer was chairman chair-man of general arrangements, and Bert Strong was toastmaster. I |
