Beery runs the general store and Miss Main is postmistress. postmis-tress. When she becomes head of the ration board Beery's miseries increase until he can stand it no longer. He journeys to Washington Washing-ton to see if he can get back into the army and returns home to find himself the new member of the ration board. During his absence a gang of black marketers in meat have organized or-ganized in Beery's neighborhood and the unsuspecting Beery is really the "front" for the gang. But he discovers what is going on and breaks up the ring to the satisfaction of all concerned. In the ingenue roles, young Dorothy Morris and newcomer Tommy Eatten turn in credible performances as the youngsters whose romance weathers the cris- is so many of our young people are facing today. Supporting Beery and Miss Main are Donald Meek, Connie Gilchrist, Henry O'Neill, Gloria Dickson, Howard Freeman and Beery's adopted daughter, Carol Ann, in her first speaking role on the screen. Willis Goldbeck's direction runs smoothly and Orville O. Dull has supplied an outstanding production. |
