Show State Press Sets Summer Meeting National Leaders Scheduled As Guest Speakers At Convention, July 30, 31, Aug. 1 ; Fishlake Newspapers To Feature War Time Discussions Roger B. Stevens, British consul to the western states, is scheduled as the principal speaker at the three-day convention of the Utah State Press Associ- ation to be held at Fishlake, Friday, Fri-day, Saturday and Sunday. He will discuss "Press and Opinion Opin-ion In Wartime Britain," and other oth-er subjects related to newspaper publishing during time of war. The entire convention will be devoted to various aspects of newspaper production during wartime, war-time, and to the numerous ways in which newspapers can assist in promoting home-front activities connected with the war effort. Don Eck, manager of the National Na-tional Editorial Association, Chicago, Chi-cago, will also speak on advertising. advertis-ing. Harrison Conover, of this city, president of the State Press association, asso-ciation, will be in charge of the various sessions. Wesley Cherry of Salina, is convention chairman. Delegates planning to attend the meet are urged to travel by train from Salt Lake City to Richfield, Rich-field, where regular bus service to Fishlake is available. Trains leave Salt Lake City at 2:15 a. m., arriving ar-riving at Richfield at 8:18 a. m. The us trip from Richfield to Fishlake takes two hours. Opening day's program will be devoted almost entirely to registration, regis-tration, although delegates will participate in fishing, boating and other amusements throughout the day. ' (Continued from page one) parties will be arranged, and the first convention meeting will be at 10 a. m., and will be a conference confer-ence of executives. The regular business luncheon will follow at noon, with two speakers scheduled to address the delegates. H. J. Ward, representing represent-ing the Porte Publishing company, will report on the recent convention conven-tion of the National Education Association As-sociation held in Indianapolis, and Hendrik Romeyn of Salt Lake City will speak on "Censorship and Government Promotion." At 4 p. m., the annual north and south softball game will be played and at 7:30 p. m., the banquet, ban-quet, at which Mr. Stevens will speak, will be held. Entertainment will be provided by men from the Kearns army air forces basic training center. Sunday's program will get under un-der way at 9 a. m. with a "war problems" breakfast, and the members mem-bers will leave two hours later for Richfield, where luncheon will be served. The train will leave for Salt Lake City at 1:51 p. m. Host newspapers include the Salina Sun, the Iron County Record, Rec-ord, Garfield County News and the Richfield Reaper. |
