Show Softball Officially Opens Monday June 3, with Special Ceremonies Planned Softball will be officially opened open-ed here Monday, June 3., at 7:15 p. m., when Mayor A. O. Thorn and other prominent city officials will be at the ball park to officially offi-cially inaugurate the 1940 season. This year an advisory committee commit-tee consisting of Leo Robertson, chairman, Fay Packard, secretary, Arvil Bird, Wayne Smith, and Claude Eggertsen, was selected to work out sofCball problems. Wil-ford Wil-ford Mower is senior recreational director and Arthur Hughes is city recreational director. Also working work-ing with the directors will be La-Mar La-Mar Weight. Immediately following the official offi-cial Softball opening ceremonies, two fast games will be played. The first game will pit the Steel plant crew against the Springville city club. Immediately following this game the Kolob Lumber girlB will play the Copperettes. Both of these games promise plenty of excitement. According to the recreational leaders, teams will play as follows: fol-lows: On Monday nights the city teams and teams in the recreational recrea-tional league will play; Tuesday nights, industrial league games; Wednesday nights, Deacon league and Kolob girls; Thursday night. In the championship game between be-tween the Third ward Deacons and Fourth ward Deacons, which was a hold-over game from last pear, the Third ward won 17 to 3. Ray Colton directed Deacon activities ac-tivities of last year and did a fine Job. This year a new director will be chosen in Mr. Colton's place, since Mr. Colton will not be here. The Third ward Deacons will receive re-ceive a pennant for their well-earned well-earned victory. |
