Show NEBO TEAMS TO OPEN PLAY ONJANUARY 9 Springville, 1941 Winner, Will Tangle With Nephi; Payson Plays Spanish Fork The Nebo division basketball race will get underway January 9, with two games scheduled. Pay-son Pay-son will play host to Spanish Fork and Nephi will greet the Nebo title defenders from Springville at Nephi. With pre-season schedules being be-ing completed this week, all Nebo teams will turn their attention to the possibility of capturing the district laurels and a chance to play in the state tourney. Although every Nebo team holds an even break for the title at this early date, sport fans are already putting forth the team to beat in this district. All indications point to the Tintic Miners as that team. The Eureka boys have hung up some very impressiv.e wins during their pre-season games, defeating such teams, as the strong Jordan and Tooele fives. The high scoring punch packed by the Miners stamps them as number 1 in the Nebo loop. Looking over the remaining clubs in the district, Nephi, Payson, and Springville stack up about equally, equal-ly, with Spanish Fork rated slightly weaker, but always capable cap-able of some mid-season upsets. Coach Art Hughes is finding it rather difficult to mold his prep hoopsters into a smooth-working combination. Although he has plenty plen-ty of height in the club, which should prove to be a boon for point-getting, point-getting, Mentor Hughes is still searching for' a smoother combination combin-ation that can click better under fire. Nebo district competition should prove to be keen this coming year with plenty of interesting battles to be waged. |
