Show Outline of Events Makes 1941 Important Year Many Improvements And Announcements Made During the Year To Change Industrial And Community Life The past year has seen many changes, but which will be counted few perhaps to those to come in 1942. Not only have there been changes to involve the country coun-try in war, which is indeed the most noteworthy event ?of the year, but there have been many changes for the better. There have also been many outstanding events socially, politically, and educationally, edu-cationally, which will make the past year one to be remembered. Taking into consideration only those which have affected our particular par-ticular community we may list perhaps as noteworthy the departure depar-ture of the National Guard boys in March. This event not only caused considerable change in family life of the community but also many changes in industrial activity. An event which annually attracts at-tracts more people to Springville than any other single enterprise is the Annual National Art Shows, of which that of 1941 was no exception. ex-ception. Announcement of intention to expand the steel production in this vicinity was heralded her-alded as one of the most promising promis-ing events of the year. Dedication of Springville's new federal post office building was considered an important event, as was the dedication of Mapleton's new ward chapel. The bonding of Springville city for $300,000 with which to finance projects to improve the water and power facilities of the town was one of the major events in point of economic importance in 1941. Springville also celebrated its 91st ibrthday the past year and a program sponsored by the D. U. P. camps added a note of interest to events of the past year. Celebrations during the year included in-cluded a Fourth of July entertainment entertain-ment in Springville, a Pioneer day program and celebration at Mapleton, Ma-pleton, a community program marking Armistice day and other holidays. Politically, the city elected candidates can-didates on the Citizens' ticket to replace those of the Independent party which had been in office the past two terms. Nebo school district was redis-tricted, redis-tricted, making Springville a district dis-trict by itself, the change having been made according to the population. popu-lation. Among successful community projects was the annual Dairy show, which is attracting more attention at-tention each year and which promises prom-ises to be one of the outstanding events in the city. Among major organizations to be sponsored by local men was the Springville Flying club, giving evidence of an attitude of local men to keep abreast of the times. Among the athletic events of importance the past year was the M Men tournament held in Springville Spring-ville for the first time and the fact that the local high school team entered the state tournament. Outstanding among social events was the annual art tea sponsored by the local federated women's clubs, at which representatives attended at-tended from all parts of the state. In addition to the events mentioned, men-tioned, there have been other note-worhy note-worhy projects, improvements, and events, all of which have made the past year an eventful one. |
