Show the waters of the Far East means the cutting of communications to the Philippines, the Dutch East Indies, In-dies, Singapore and China. In her area, Japanese sea and air power have gained a tremendous advantage advan-tage and this condition will have to be reversed before the Japanese can be defeated. JAP POSITION MADE STRONGER The purpose of the Japanese is to secure domination in the Far East. The only way for the United Unit-ed States to win the present war is to prevent Japan from securing secur-ing the domination. Naturally, this means that, eventually, sufficient force must be assembled in the Far East to whip the Japanese in their home waters and in their own island. The first events of the struggle indicate that the Japanese have gained successes which will consolidate con-solidate their position in the Far East and make more difficult the final campaign in that area. The oulook for a long war is based in part upon the belief that it may take months, or years, for this country to secure a fleet of sufficient size to successfully engage en-gage the Japanese in and around Japan.
