"Only your duties would have to extend beyond the ten years, for the age of adolesence is a critical period." - Some one has said that conscientious consci-entious and intelligent mothers have but little time for an other job but mothering, during the teen age. This is the period that is most dangerous in the life of our youth. They do not understand their emotions and longings. They are emerging from children into adults. A different nature is stirring stir-ring within them. The glands are developing and pouring out their secretions. Their bodies and minds are rapidly developing. They are Putting away childish things and beginning to think of the more serious se-rious aspects of life. If ever par- much. Their minds should be kept in a healthy condition by a proper amount of study, sleep and rest. Do not push them unduly in school but train them in the conscientious discharge of their duties.Watch, but not too anxiously, the health of your children. Encourage them to confide in you. Nevei laugh or make fun of their confidences. Never encourage them to brood over, or repay in- like manner, real or fancied slights. Boys and girls in their teens are inclined to be reticent to their elders, but probably never again will they need the wise, understanding under-standing counsel and guidance of parents as at this critical age. Fortunate indeed are the young people who have parents upon whom they can rely and who will never fail them. Parents, you won't have your children with you much longer af- ents need wisdom, patience, tact and love, it is during this trying period of adolescence. Have you ever seen a river that suddenly began running down hill, and watched its rapid, uneven, dangerous current ? It takes a powerful pow-erful and steady hand to keep a boat from overturning and perhaps per-haps being swept away in the swift waters. You are guiding your child's bark through the uncertain waters wat-ers of youth. It will take all of your skill and strength to prevent shipwreck at the ,most dangerous places. Parents, you must depend upon your Heavenly Father to guide you, that you in turn may guide and influence your children. Your boys and girls need some wholesome recreation but not too |
