Mr. and Mrs. Velt Hancock have a baby son, born at their home Saturday, October 5. The new arrival ar-rival has two sisters. Miss Melba Roylance of this city came home from her work in San Francisco this week to spend a few days with her parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Austin Roylance. Roy-lance. The Mapleton people have just completed installing a new furnace fur-nace in their church house. The work was done under direction of Bishop Frank Jensen. Impressive services were conducted con-ducted in the First ward chapel Saturday for Miss Ella Maycock. who died Wednesday night at the family residence following several weeks illness. Mrs. John Hardy entertained at a birthday party this week for her little daughter, Ruth, who was five years old. Twenty little friends attended. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnson and little son, Dick of Cedar City visited in Springville this week. Announcement is made of the marriage of Miss Ada Mae Rooks, daughter of Mr, and Mrs. R. D. Rooks of Marrianna, Fla., to John C. Patrick, son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Patrick of this city, which took place Thursday, October 3. 20 Years Ago . . . 13 Hunt Sanford, the big punch in the Springville high school football foot-ball team eligible to compete in the Central Utah gridiron competition? compe-tition? That was the big question to be settled by Arbitrator E. Allan Bateman this week. Hunt has been attending school in Idaho for the past few years and came to Springville to enter school this fall. Those who entered the protest pro-test say his family has not moved mov-ed down and that makes him ineligible. in-eligible. Miss Eva Harmer was elected editor of the high school yearbook. Other officers include: Leora Peterson, Pet-erson, assistant editor; Carl Weight, business manager; Warwick War-wick Palfreyman, assistant business busin-ess manager; Robert Lyall, dramatic dra-matic manager, Margaret Bird, assistant; as-sistant; Rex Sutherland and Verl Whiting, cheer leaders. Arnold Roylance of Springville is among the law students registered regis-tered at the University of Utah Law school this year. Despite the fact that Mr. Roylance lost his sight 15 years ago. he is making an envieble record at the school. The Springville " Fourth ward was filled to capacity for funeral services Sunday for Abner Thorn, 80, who died Friday at the family home after a brief illness. William Henry Diamond, 67, died at his home in Hobble Creek Canyon Can-yon this week following a lingering ling-ering illness. General conference sessions will be conducted in the high school Sunday morning and in the afternoon. after-noon. The Priesthood session will be conducted in the Third ward church. Harry Lee has just finished' a new home. The builder was John K. Johnson. The same contractor has just finished a home for Lynn Alleman. John H. Manwaring of this city announces the engagement of his daughter, Helen to Lloyd Ashcraf t son of Mr. and Mrs. D. O. Ash-craft. Ash-craft. The marriage is to take place October 22 in the Salt Lake Temple Mrs. Mary Z. Hatfield and Mrs. H. Perry of Mapleton, Gold Star mothers were voted into the Springville American Legion Post Auxiliary as honorary members, at the meeting this month. President Presi-dent LaPreal Friel was in charge of the meeting. 25 Years Ago . . Mr. and Mrs. Charles Boyer have returned to their home in Springville Spring-ville after spending the summer in Omaha, Nebr. Miss Vonda Hutchings, daughter of Carlos Hutchings and Alton Beck of Spanish Fork were married mar-ried on Wednesday September 30. The Springville high school FFA boys under the direction of G. L. Barron took high honors at the county fair. The stock judging team consisted of Sylvester Allan, Ronald Whiting, Myron Childs, with Mack Sanford and Wendell Mendenhall, alternates. Mrs. C. G. Salisbury and Miss Carol Bird entertained at a shower show-er at the Salisbury home this week for Miss Birdella Reynolds, who is about to be married. Funeral services were conducted in the Third ward chapel Friday for Mrs. Deseret B. Crandall, age 68, who died at the home of her son Milan L. Crandall in Salt Lake City Tuesday. Springville high school lost the first football game of the season when they played Payson here Friday. Fri-day.
