Show Citizens Protest Using Memorial Park for Baseball Vigorous protests against using Memorial Park for such recreational recrea-tional purposes as baseball and football, were voiced verbally, by petition and in letter form, at the city council meeting Monday evening, eve-ning, according to report by Lloj'd Ashcraft, city recorder. Grant Nielson, property owner in the vicinity of the park, presented pre-sented a petition, signed by more than 200 home owners asking that i city officials, continue to. limit, the type of recreation permitted on yie park. ; Glen A. Christensen, speaking : for the Bishop's Council, said the 1 church officials favored keeping the area for non-commercial recreation re-creation and a scenic area. A. O. Tom, chairman of the city planning board, submitted a letter from the board in which a proposal pro-posal to look for a new recreation area for commercial ball games ' and other types of recreation, was submitted. One councilman expresesd the ! opinion, however,' that the area was too large to keep up without any revenue coming from it and other similar comments-were made during the meeting. Mayor Cherrington voiced the opinion that it may be a question for the public to decide and that there was a possibility that it could be voted on when the city called for a proposed sewer bond election in the near future. A report was also made on a project already underway to take the old electric light poles from the street and move them back on private property along Fourth South from Fourth East to Nintlr East. Smaller metal poles will be placed along the road near the sidewalk on which street lights will be Installed. |
