Show Utah Will Figure In Present Congress Session Waslunton, Jan. 6 A predicton that Utah and the West will figure prominently in the forthcoming session of congress came on "opening "open-ing day" Wedenesday from Sen. Wallace F. Bennett (R., Utah) . "There's going to be a real debate de-bate on legislation to authorize the Upper Colorado River Storage project," the lawmaker noted. "I think we have a good chance to win t His fight for Utah's future." Sen. Bennett said, too, that he looked for a continuing investigation investigat-ion of tariffs affecting the domestic wool and metal mining industries which have felt the strng of for-iegn for-iegn competition. "These problems will be before my own Finance committee, so I'll be on top of them through the entire session," the Utahn said. This committee also will be responsible resp-onsible for tax revisions and the proposed extension of the social security program, matters which I must originate in the House, he noted. Sen. Bennett said he 'thought the Eisenhower legislative propram would attract the support of many Democrats and, by and large, would be successful, despite some "real battles along the way." "This promises to be one of the most important sessions of the past S decade for the Intermountain area, both in major legislative issues and in those matters directly affecting the pocketbooks of the average Utah taxpayer," the senator concluded. |
