Show From the Herald Files I S 15 Years Ago . . . The Vernon Thorns announce the birth of a baby boy born at the family residence. A daughter was born the past week to Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence McKee. Mr. and Mrs. Arvil Ence are rejoicing over the arrival of a baby daughter at their home the first of last week. Announcement is made of the marriage of Lyman Metcalf, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Metcalf, to Ruth White, daughter of the late Dave and Adelia Hafen White. Springville will have a Fourth of July celebration, chairman W. W. Brockbank of the city council in charge of the project announced today. A sunrise salute, band concert, con-cert, races for children will be staged, under the direction of the city. C. G. Salisbury, first vice-president of the Utah State Bankers association, was last week elected president of the state group. He home of Irving Jensen Sunday ev-$ ening, when flames completely destroyed the home. The house was in flames before the Springville fire department arrived and they saved the bam and hay stacks. It was covered by insurance but the origin of the fire is not known. 25 Years Ago . . . William P. Fullmer, 77, of Map-leton Map-leton died at the family home June 19 of pneumonia. One of the most interesting social so-cial events of the' month was the marriage of Miss Odessa Menden-denhall, Menden-denhall, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Mendenhall and Orvil Child, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Child. The ceremony was performed at high noon Monday, with Bishop Hilton Robertson performing the ceremony. The bride wore a lovely gown of dawn gorgette. Mrs. Ivan Childs entertained at a shower for the bride, entertaining 35 friends. The marriage of Miss Marjorie Parker and Lloyd Bird was solom-nized solom-nized in the Salt Lake Temple on Thursday. On Friday evening, her parents7"Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Par-, ker gave a reception in the First ward hall. The couple left after on a wedding trip into Idaho and will make their home in Bingham. Bing-ham. Mr. Bird is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bird. Miss Florence Childs is attending attend-ing summer school at the U.S.A.C. at Logan. W. McKinnon. Mrs. Lillian Huntington of this city announce the engagement of her daughter, Lucy to Erling Roy-lance, Roy-lance, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arch Roylance of this city. Complimentary to Miss Helen Averett, who was wed the past week to Max Rowland, her sister, Mrs. Reed Clements and a sister-in-law, Mrs. La Von Averett entertained enter-tained at a shower. One of the most interesting of wedding receptions was held on Thursday night in the Second ward to honor Mr. and Mrs. Eldredge Maxwell and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Ed-ward Hutchings, who were married in a double ring ceremony in the Salt Lake Temple on Wednesday. Mrs. Maxwell and Mr. Hutchings are brother and sister, son and daughter of Mr., and Mrs. Chester Hutchings. Virgil Bird and Oliver Dalton were Monday night awarded the stock feed in the northeast city pasture. Their offer was $210. 20 Years Ago . . . Of the 27 children examined at the child clinic Wednesday, 12 were found to be normal. Bad tonsils ton-sils led the defects in the little ones. Some had rickets and some hernia. Mr. and Mrs. Orson Hansen have a new baby daughter born at Miner Hospital June 19. Mrs. Hansen was formerly Eva Allan of Mapleton. Mrs. Emma Van. Leuvan of this city announces the engagement of her daughter, Hilda, to Mark F. Boyack of Spanish Fork. The marriage mar-riage is to take place on July 1. Hundreds of citizens enpoyed the first of a series of band concerts con-certs in the City Park, Sunday evening. Members of the American -Legion Auxiliary will be entertained Wednesday evening, at the home of Mrs. Alta Olsen. The Rev. Harold L. Wilson returned re-turned from attendance at the Presbyterian Assembly at Pittsburg, Pitts-burg, Pa., this week. Purchase of approximately 8 acres of land east of the Grant school on Depot street was recently re-cently made by the city to be converted con-verted into a recreational park. Ploughing and leveling of the ground will get underway this week. A grandstand will be moved from the high school campus and other seats will be built on the ground, the grounds are expected to be ready for use by July 4. A ball game, horse races and other sports are planned for that day. The local Legion and Kiwanis club are cooperating with the city in the project. The Kiwanis club and ladies will enjoy a trout supper this evening in Provo canyon. Fire caused $2500 damage to the |
