The merchants are doing everything every-thing in their power to make it convenient and profitable' for townspeople to give local stores a chance first of supplying their Christmas shopping needs. They are staying open late starting Friday, Fri-day, Nov. 30 and every Monday and Friday until Christmas eve and will also be open late the" entire week before Christmas except ex-cept the night of Dec. 24, when stores will close at 6 p.m. They stress that parking is not a problem in Springville and there are many other conveniences in home-town stores which will be found along with a variety of first class merchandise at prices comparable com-parable to those elsewhere. Also as an extra inducement, merchants are offering special Friday evening surprises to shoppers shop-pers in all stores and are inviting townspeople to take advantages of this special promotion. The build Springville program is expected to be carried on throughout through-out the Christmas season as well as after as a means of helping to build this city rather than the business districts of neighboring towns. Chamber of Commerce "officials and committee workers stress the importance of staying at home to shop not only for the sake of ourselves our-selves but to help the town grow and progress along with others in the county. Working on the Chamber of Commerce committee are Dr. D. K. The glittering new decorations featuring brightly lighted stars and gayly colored festoons have replaced the Evergreen branches of previous years and add a modernistic mod-ernistic touch unlike that seen in any other city in the county. The brand new decorations are as beautiful beau-tiful in the sparkling winter sunshine sun-shine as in the bright night lights and the whole town will be proud of the display. Santa Clause too will be surprised sur-prised and surely delighted as he makes his annual visit to Spring-villo Spring-villo Friday evening at 5:30 p.m., when the new lights will bo turned on and the Christmas holiday season sea-son ushered in. Mayor A. W. Cher-rington Cher-rington is scheduled to throw the switch which will literally flood Main street with the new lighting effects at 5:30 o'clock. Townspeople are urged to come to town Friday evening and to bring their children as Santa will have bags of candy and nuts for all youngsters. The stores will be open late and everyone will join in the joyous pre-holiday spirit. Santa himself will make his entry en-try on the Fire truck and will go immediately to Memorial Hall, where the candy and nuts will be given out. Doll Given Away Just before Santa's arrival, the Jaycee Wives doll which has been displayed in Friels and on which tickets have been sold, will be given away to the lucky person, the proceeds to go to the club's Christmas project. The Springville Jaycees have just completed the stringing of lights on all business houses of the town in preparation for the gala holiday opening and are busy this week sacking the candy and nuts for Santa Claus to give the young fry. JO Chairmen Bill Baker has been acting as chairman of the Jaycee Christmas project committee with LaVar Nelson Nel-son and Dwain Rasmussen, co-chairmen co-chairmen of the lighting. Other committee members include: Edgel Oldroyd, Junior Llewellyn, Bud Schardine, Dick Wheeier, Joe Smith, Jack White, Bill Jones, Bud Herbert, Art Mitchell, John Swen-son, Swen-son, Allan Danielson, Blaine Ostler Ost-ler and Lamar Miner, all of whom have worked many hours to help make the town more beautiful for the holidays. In charge of the Children's Santa party are Lamar Smith and Dan Barton. Standing in front, Joe White, president' of the Springville Jaycees and Bill Baker, chairman of the club's Christmas project, together with a large group of committeemen including Joe Smith, rear, put in many hours to aid with the holiday lighting system which will be turned on to usher in Santa and the holiday season Friday evening. |
