Show Bridge Job Goes To Whitney Co.; Work Begins Soon The job of building a bridge across Hobble Creek at Second South and Third East and a retaining re-taining wall from Main Street east ito the bridge was awarded to the Ray Whiting Company at a special meeting of the Springville Spring-ville city council last week. The Whitney company offered the second lowest bid on the construction con-struction job which is being done as a result of this year's heavy flood waters. Low bidder for the job, the W. W. Clyde Construction Co.,- was not awarded the bid because of the fact that Mayor Edward Clyde is affiliated with the company. The city council had previously given the matter several days consideration con-sideration to determine whether it would be legal for the Clyde company to take the job. At the special meeting Wednesday Wednes-day night, Attorney Glen W. Sum-sion Sum-sion gave a written opinion which was read by the mayor and which was to the effect that it would be illegal for the job to be done by the Clyde Company. The Clyde bid was $37,651.12 and the Whitney bid $37,924.54. Other bids were from the Ralph Child Company, $41,472.50, and from the Thorn Construction Company, $44,1-918.05. $44,1-918.05. Mayor Clyde was authorized to contact John Neff of Salt Lake City, who has set up the specifications specifi-cations for the bridge and wall, and they in turn will inform the Whitney company to start work immediately. The job is to be completed com-pleted in 75 days. |
