Show Doubt Surrounds Suicide Theory i KANSAS CITY, May 2 a.la The Missouri river yielded no trace today of Edward L. Schneider, close business associate of Democratic Demo-cratic Boss Thomas J. Pendergast, and a key . witness in federal prosecutions of Pendergast, and federal authorities investigated the theory that he had not committed com-mitted .suicide. Schneider's "suicide'' or disappearance disap-pearance was a severe blow- to the government's case against Pendergast. Pend-ergast. Agents of the federal bureau bu-reau of investigation were looking for him. There was an abundance of evidence evi-dence that Schneider leaped from a bridge into the river. His car was found on the bridge. On its seats were suicide-notes. His hat was found floating in the river two miles downstream. But there was no trace of a body, though firemen and sheriff's deputies had made strenuous efforts to find one. Police said that until the body was recovered "it's anybody's guess what happened to the man." |
