Show Lou Gehrig Takes Bench To End Streak of 2,130 Carries DETROIT, May 2 il.HI - Lou Gehrig, iron man of baseball who compiled a world record of playing play-ing in 2,130 consecutive games for the New York Yankees, benched himself today. His once niighly bat silenced and his powerful legs gone, Gehrig Geh-rig went to Manager Joe McCarthy Mc-Carthy of the Yankees before today's to-day's game with the Detroit Tig ers and asked to be taken out of the lineup. "The whole team isn't going so good," Gehrig said, "and I'm not going so good myself so I thing it would be better for me to get out of there for a while." McCarthy assented and sent Babe Dahlgren, utility infielder, to first base. |
