Show Lindbergh Says U.S. Far Behind In Air Supremacy LANGLEY FIELD. Va.. May 2 (U.R) Col. Charles A. Lindbergh predicted today that unless the United States begins immediate expansion of aviation research facilities it will be unable to catch up in five years with the European Europ-ean powers. He made the statement privately private-ly to a group of government officials of-ficials and aeronautical experts with whim he dined aboard a Potomac river steamer enioute from Washington to this aviation center. He was one of a party of 400 that witnessed a national ad-vistory ad-vistory committee for aeronatuics demonstration of new discoveries and devices that will make possible pos-sible aircraft speeds never before attained. Lindbergh, a member of the NACA. a semi-official agency, declined de-clined to discuss any subject with the press. But it was learned he told Ihc group of officifils last night that five years ago the. United Unit-ed States led the world in aviation research, and was outstripped only in the last few ycals. |
