Show EDITOR FOUND SHOTTODEATH BEVERLEY HILLS, July 10 (U.R1 Illness and despondency were blamed today for the suicide of Ray Long, magazine editor, literaray critic and publisher. Long shot himself last night with a rifle. He was found, clad in pajamas, on the floor of the bedroom bed-room of his home. A maid heard the shot and found nlm dying. Unconscious, Un-conscious, he was taken to Beverley Bever-ley Hills hospital, where an operation oper-ation was performed. He died a half hour later. Long had been ill for the past few weeks, frienas said. He had spent the day in bed, the maid reported, re-ported, and seemed unusually morose. mo-rose. He had been in a dark mood all afternoon, she said. Police said he left no written explanation of his suicide. Long for 13 years was probably prob-ably the highest paid editor of all time. He was best known as editorial edi-torial chief of the Cosmopolitan Magazine, a posv he held from 1919 to 1931. During that time his salary and bonuses amounted to an estimated $180,000 a year. |
