Show AGED COUPLE CELEBRATE 63 WEDDING DAYS Mr. and Mrs. James Wignall, pioneer residents of this city, and one of the oldest married couples in this vicinity, celebrated their sixty-third wedding anniversary, anni-versary, Surilay, at their home, South Fourth street. Both Mr. and Mrs. Wignall appear ap-pear much younger than their years. They are well known in the community, having lived here the greater part of their lives. Mr. Wignall, a Black Hawk Indian In-dian war veteran, was born in England. May 6, 1849, a son of William and Grace Slater Wignall. He came to Utah with his parents par-ents in 1856, crossing the plains in the ill-fated Edward Martin hand-cart company. The family settled at Payson where Mr. Wignall Wig-nall spent his early life. He came at Springville in 1877, and has lived here since. He assisted with construction of many of the early railroads in the western states. During his later years he was a successful farmer and stockman. Although Mr. Wignall retired from active farm life some time ago .until recently he rode horseback horse-back to his ranch in Hobble Creek canyon. Mrs. Wignall was born in Engj land, October 5, 1852, a daughter of Thomas and Annie Ford Burt. With her family she crossed the plains in a sailing vessel, requiring requir-ing six weeks to make the journey. jour-ney. They came to Utah in 1862, crossing the plains by ox-teams. After two years in Satl Lake City, the family came to Springville. Spring-ville. where Mrs. Wignall has made her home since. She recalls many interesting incidents in-cidents of early pioneer life. As a young girl she learned to weave cloth, knit stockings and make candles which tasks formed the major part of the pioneer girls' education. Mr. and Mrs. Wignall were married Jul y7; 1872. They are parents of nine children, seven of whom are living. They are Mrs. Ella Hatch, Charles Wigna1 of Prbvo, , E. J. Wignall of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Hattie Allen, Mrs'. Ruel Averett. Mrs. Maggie Daley and Frank Wignall of Springville. The couple has 36 grand children and 29 great grandchildren. |
