Show MOSES JOHNSON VISITS SCENE OF CHILDHOOD Memories of nearly 60 years ago were brought vividly to the mind of Moses Johnson of this city upon his recent visit to the Lee's Ferry celebration. Upon his return, Mr. Johnson declared that every rock and knoll looked the same as when he visited that section in 1876. Mr. Johnson, though but a lad of 16, accompanied his brother Aaron Johnson Jr., Al and Charles Whiting Whit-ing and Vest Perry, in company with about 200 other L. " D. S. members, whom Brigham Young had sent to that section of the country to colonize. He drove two teams of oxen on the trip. The L. D. S. colonizers arrived in the country just 100 years after Father Escalante. Though their efforts at colonization were not so successful they made the way for development of the country less hazardous. Mr. Johnson was a special guest at the Lee's Ferry celebration which was held especially to pay homage to the early colonizers of that part of the country. |
