Show WASHINGTON SCHOOL TO BE CLOSED EDITIR'S NOTE: The following fol-lowing article is submitted by the Ntbo school board. Experience has shown that it is not not only desirable but essential es-sential for the best development and guidance of grammar grade school children, particularly boys 11 and 12 years of age and over, that they have contact and association asso-ciation with male teachers. Boys of the fifth and sixth grade level in school seek the companionship companion-ship of men and need their assistance assist-ance in the playground and physical physi-cal activities connected with the schools. In order to meet this. need and in lieu of the fact that there have been no men teachers in the elementary grades in the Springville Spring-ville schools, it has been deemed desirable to place men principals in each of the elementary schools or the city. With the improved facilities at the Jefferson, Lincoln and Grant schools, by way of ( added classrooms, class-rooms, and the gymnasium-auditorium, these schools present more adequate facilities for a well-bal-! anced instructional program in ' keeping with the latest developments develop-ments in educational practice. The health education program, that is being required by the state department of education, not only in the secondary schools but also in the elementary schools, can be more properly taken care of in these three buildings with their increased facilities than could be attained in schools that are not so equipped. The addition addi-tion of rooms in each of these buildings has also made possible the housing of the fifth and sixth grades of the city, where they can have the advantages referred to. It has, therefore, seemed to be desirable, de-sirable, both from the standpoint of educational opportunity as well as an economical saving, to discontinue dis-continue the use of the Washington Washing-ton school" for the present and place the fifth and sixth grades in the other three buildings of the city. Such an arrangement will eliminate the cost of heating, janitorial supplies, and repairs and replacements pertinent to the Washington building. .These changes are made purely in the interest of an efficient educational program, economically administered, administer-ed, with the welfare of the child as the important element under consideration. |
