Show BOMBER LOST WITH 2 ABOARD SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 5 U.n Army authorities disclosed today that a Martin bomber with two men aboard disappeared last night after being sighted less than 15 miles from its base in Hamilton Field, 25 miles north of here. Those aboard were Second Lieutenant Lieu-tenant Herbert E. Knieriem, pilot, and Sergeant Hartly Roberts, observer. ob-server. Fifteen planes droned away from Hamilton field this morning to search for the missing craft, which was one of a flight of seven bombers which had been maneuvering maneuv-ering over the upper San Joaquin valley. The plane was due back to Hamilton field at 10 o'clock last night. Officers said it was sighted a few minubes previously in the vicinity of Vallejo, less than 15 miles by air line east of Hamilton field. It was reported raining heavily when the six other planes of the flight landed at Hamilton field. Fellow fliers of Lieutenant Knieriem Knier-iem believed he might have been forced down in the marshes of upper San Francisco bay between Vallejo and Hamilton field. |
