Show t " General Strike Threat Against General Motors WASHINGTON, Jan. 5 (U.P) An official of the committee for industrial organization said today a general strike order against the General Motors corporation was "a virtual certainty" unless the automobile company swiftly changed chang-ed its policies. "Unless they change their attitude at-titude with respect to their enunciated enun-ciated policy there will be nothing left for the workers but to fight for their rights," the official said. He said the order would be issued is-sued by Homer Martin, president of the United Automobile Workers Work-ers of America, if is found necessary. neces-sary. The CIO has announced readiness readi-ness to back a walkout with all its resources which would supplement the auto unions' "war chest." John L. Lewis, CIO chairman, had no comment to make today on the statement of Alfred P. Sloan, Jr., General Motors president, presi-dent, which accepted the challenge by Lewis and the auto union and stated that General Motors would not allow a "labor organization" to "run" its plants. |
