Show LOCAL RODEO PRODUCER TO SHOW AT MONA Mayor Warren Newton of Mona has made arrangements with Jack Dew. Springville, rodeo producer, to furnish all the stock and to manage Mona's Big Spring-Round-up and Rodeo, to be held on May 16th and 17th in Mona's new rodeo grounds. About thirty bucking horses will be used at the rodeo, and a mixed carload of pure-bred Brahma steers and Mexican long-horned steers. Mr. Dew brought his string of bucking horses into this country last fall, and has been feeding them this winter near the West Mountain. The carload of wild Brahmas and Mexican long-homed steers to be used at the Mona Rodeo was shipped in and unloaded at Payson last week, fresh from South Texas. In the United States, Brahma cattle are found chiefly in Texas, nd were imported to cross with the native breeds to produce cattle cat-tle that would be more immune to tick fever, and better able to stand the excessive heat of the southern part of the state, Mr. Dew states. While the Brahmas are the sacred cattle of India, they are highly prized as bucking cattle by rodeo producers in America. In Texas, there is a difference of opinion in regard to the value of Brahmas for beef cattle. . Some cattlemen hold that they are the very best stock for that hot country, coun-try, and others will have nothing to do with them because the cattle cat-tle are so wild that they are almost al-most impossible to handle in the heavy brush pastures of southern Texas. These cattle will make their first Utah appearance at the Mona Rodeo, where the Brahmas will be used for the steer riding, and the long-horns for that most dangerous danger-ous of all cowboy sports bull dogging. Mr. pew's rodeo stock will also be used at tr-o rodeo to be held in connection with the Helldorado celebration in Las Vegas, Nevada, on April 24th, 25th and 26th, it is stated. |
