Show Over Fifteen Per Cent Of District Population Found To Be Of Military Service Age 950 Men Relwecn 21-35 Years Register Wednesday Heaviest registration of young men of selective service age in any single district in Salt Lake county Wednesday was that of Bingham district 335, with 28Z men reporting their names, ages and where they may be found if needed for duty, it was stated yesterday by William J. Korth, county clerk. Next highest district in the county was district 334, with 254 men registering. It is likely that the two Bingham districts, high in number of men registering in in the most populous county of Utah, are also high for the state, Mr. Korth said. The workers who staffed the registration place in Bingham districts, where heavy registration was handled, were complimented by Mr. Korth on their efficiency and neatness. All cards were carefully type- written, making their study by selective service boards an easy matter. Very few districts handled hand-led the task so efficiently, the county clerk stated. Alfreda Youngberg, clerk of the district 16 selective service board with jurisdiction over Jordan Jor-dan school district, announces that draft board offices opened Thursday at 22 East Center street in Midvale. Office hours are from 9 am-to am-to 5 p.m. week days and 9 p.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Anyone having questions or business in regards to selective service is welcomed to call at the office for information, Miss Youngberg says. J. R. Rawlins of Draper is chairman; A. P. Rasmussen of Midvale, secretary, "and Ed-W-Johnson of Bingham a board member. In alL in precinct ten there were 950 men of 21 to 35 years, inclusive, who reported at places of registration, divided as follows: fol-lows: District 333, Copperton 47; district 334, lower Bingham 254; district 335, upper Bingham 282; district 336, Copperfield 178; district 337, Highland Boy, 88; district 338, Lark 101. The registration in tenth precinct pre-cinct included 15 67 percent of the population of Bingham district, dis-trict, 6063, on the draft rolls. The estimate of the war department that United States men of selective select-ive service age make up 14 percent per-cent of the population caused officials of-ficials to believe about 849 would register here, just 101 under the figure actually reporting at the places of registration, "v |
